A good Saxony story

IREALLY enjoyedJeff Breer's article about coach John Daniel and the Saxony Lutheran High School basketball team. I went to some of the games and was very impressed with the team's discipline, attitude and unselfish play. It is great that the team finished 19-4, but more importantly, the team has created pride, hope and optimism in the Lutheran community. Now the school is getting ready to break ground on a new building and is on its way to becoming the school of choice for area Lutherans. What an amazing success story.

Getting his due

I DON'T think I have ever seen an article that you put out of our boys basketball team that has been a good or a positive one. But I would like you to know we have some very talented boys. And Danny Kellas does not get enough credit for his accomplishments. He is one of the best players in our region. Not too many high school kids hit over 1,200 points in a high school career.

Danny Kellas, who is from Doniphan High School, indeed deserves credit for a big season.

Where's the real spirit?

CENTRAL AND Notre Dame are two fine high schools that should meet each other in mutually respectful athletic competition without in-your-face tactics that do nothing but create discord. I'm sick of the rudeness, insolence and thug mentality that repeatedly passes for team spirit. Does anyone else out there agree?

Destined for debate

AS A high school basketball fan and former player in the 1980s, I seem to remember controversies surrounding the Notre Dame and Scott County Central teams. They, too, were accused of everything from recruiting to unsportsmanlike conduct seemingly only because they were just that much better than everyone else at the time. I played for a school in the same conference as Bell City and Advance, and I sense a lot of jealousy stemming from the fact that Advance just can't beat the Cubs at this time. Eventually another small school will put a great team on the floor, and maybe then people will leave Bell City alone. So keep up the good work, David Heeb. Teams like yours keep me going to see high school basketball games. Jim Hall, congrats on your milestone win, and may you have many more.

Not all about wins

TO THE fan who posted "Bell City doing it right" in FanSpeak, please take off the blinders of success. It amazes me how people justify behavior based on wins and losses, when in the game of life, those don't matter at all.
