Cardinals left-hander Lance Painter said Sunday he'll be activated on Tuesday in time for the start of the team's three-game series against the Colorado Rockies.
Painter, on the 15-day disabled list with an injured left leg since late July, isn't sure how much help he'll be. He's going to try to pitch even though he has little control of his left foot.
Until Friday, Painter had been rehabilitating what was believed to be a torn calf muscle from his home in Phoenix, Ariz. Frustrated by a lack of progress, he returned Friday to St. Louis, where team doctors examined the injury and said he couldn't make it worse by attempting to play.
Painter has pitched only 18 innings this year, with an 0-1 record and 5.00 ERA. He's also spent time on the DL with a torn hamstring.

Three or four hooded gunmen walked into a Miami barbershop co-owned by NBA star Alonzo Mourning and killed two men who had just gotten haircuts, police said.
"Both were shot in the head. It seems like a message," police Lt. Lorenzo Whitehead said. No one else was injured in the shooting Saturday, including a 1-year-old child who was with one of the victims.
The victims were identified as Emmett Greene, 27, and Alexander Harris, whose age was not available Sunday night.
The Cutz barbershop is owned by Mourning, a former Miami Heat center now with the New Jersey Nets, and barber Peter Bethel.

Sam Hornish Jr. edged Scott Dixon and Bryan Herta to win his second straight Delphi Indy 300 on Sunday. His margin of victory was .0099 seconds, the third-closest finish in IRL history.
Hornish has been a part of the three closest finishes in Indy car history, winning all three. At last year's Delphi Indy 300, he won the closest ever, beating Al Unser Jr. by just .0024 seconds -- about three inches.
This year's race also was the closest 1-2-3 finish in Indy Racing League history. Just .0100 separated first and third place.
