College The Fiesta Bowl drew the highest television rating since the Bowl Championship Series started pairing the top teams for the national title after the 1998 season.

ABC reported an 18.6 rating for Ohio State's thrilling 31-24 double-overtime victory against Miami on Friday night -- a 30.7-percent jump from last year's national championship, when Miami routed Nebraska 37-14 in the Rose Bowl.

The ratings were measured in the country's 55 largest markets. Nationwide ratings will be released Monday.

Interest in Friday night's game bounced back sharply as the Buckeyes and 'Canes met in a battle of unbeatens. The rating peaked during the dramatic final half-hour, garnering a 22.3.

The Fiesta was the highest-rated of the 20 games played under the BCS format.

It was the highest-rated national championship game since ABC and CBS began sharing coverage of the Bowl Alliance in the 1995 season.

n Butler's Darnell Archey broke the NCAA Division I record for consecutive free throws Saturday when he made his 74th in a row.

The record of 73 was set by Villanova's Gary Buchanan, whose streak ended on Feb. 12, 2001.

Archey, a senior guard, was 3-of-3 from the free throw line in a 68-65 victory over Illinois-Chicago and has made 76 in a row. He hasn't missed a foul shot since his sophomore season in February 2001.

Archey, who was 3-of-10 from the field and finished with 10 points, tied the record on Monday against Hawaii.

Kansas forward Wayne Simien dislocated his right shoulder after jamming it into the rim Saturday and had to be helped from the court in obvious pain.

Mark Cairns, trainer for the 18th-ranked Jayhawks, said the 6-9 sophomore was not taken to the hospital and the shoulder was popped back into place in the locker room.

"He said it's too early to know how many games he might miss," said sports information director Mitch Germann.

Simien leads Kansas with 9.4 rebounds and is their second-leading scorer with 17 points per game. A similar injury to the same shoulder caused him to miss about the last month of his senior year in high school.

Baseball

Former major league catcher Darren Daulton was arrested on charges of driving under the influence when he refused a breath alcohol test, police said Saturday.

Daulton was arrested Friday night when he was stopped by officers in his 2003 Mercedes Benz, said Tampa police spokeswoman Katie Hughes. He was arrested with a female passenger but she was not charged, Hughes said.

He was charged with DUI, refusing the breath alcohol test and driving with a suspended license. He was released from Hillsborough County Jail Saturday morning on $1,000 bail.

Daulton has a home in Belleair, about 20 miles west of Tampa, jail records show. There was no telephone listing for Daulton in Belleair and it could not be immediately determined if he had a lawyer.

A three-time All-Star, Daulton spent 14 years in the majors, 13 1/2 with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was traded to Florida midway through the 1997 season and won the World Series with the Marlins that year. He made one other World Series appearance, with the Phillies in a 1993 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Daulton hit .245 in his career with 137 home runs and 588 RBI's. He served as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' bullpen coach in 2001.
