A vote for McFerren

I AM glad to see Lennies McFerren threw his hat in the ring for the men's basketball head coach position at Southeast Missouri State. Coach McFerren would be an outstanding choice for a program that has to be rebuilt into a winning team once again. We have plenty of talent that is not even being sought after by the Southeast coaches right down here in the Bootheel. Baseball coach Mark Hogan, a Southeast Missouri native by the way, has been the only coach I know from Southeast lately that has recruited players from the Bootheel. Southeast should bring coach McFerren aboard and bring the winning tradition back to the Southeast basketball program. Like the old saying goes,"If you can't compete with the big dogs, stay on the porch."

Shady stadium deal

THE SEATS in the Cardinals' new Busch Stadium in the area where I sat have gone up. It's just not worth the trip anymore to see the Cardinals play. They can take their new stadium and place it where the sun doesn't shine. I refuse to be ripped off. Only the very rich can afford any professional sports event anymore.

Geniuses not too smart

WHO IS the genius that decided Cape-area subscribers are not interested in Sikeston, Poplar Bluff, Charleston and other area teams? Stating that these teams are not in our coverage area is nothing but a lame excuse. The Southeast Missourian might save a few bucks on newsprint, but you'll do it at a cost to your circulation.

Ex-Cards fan

I AM so mad at the St. Louis Cardinals that I may just become a Cubs fan. First, the Cardinals tried to ram a tax down our throats to pay for the new Busch Stadium, which we didn't even need. I heard the tickets already are sold out for the season. It seems the corporations have bought all the nice seats already. Now they don't want AM radio stations like KZIM-960 to broadcast the games anymore. I have been listening to broadcasts for nearly 50 years. I think I will stay in town and watch the Capahas, who play their hearts out for free.

Going negative

THANKS TO the Southeast Missourian for the negative spin on Bell City's loss to Jefferson in the Class 1 state championship game. The players and coach Brian Brandtner really need you folks to tell them what they did not do right in the final game. So much for support of kids who played hard, worked hard all year and were heartbroken at the loss. Got any more salt left to rub in that wound?
