Give me Kelly

I'M JUST calling to say I'm disappointed in the sports section. Usually they cover Kelly softball games, and we've had games Monday and Tuesday, and I haven't seen anything in there about the Kelly Hawks' softball scores. I'd just like to see the Southeast Missourian cover them again this year.

(Details of the Kelly-Chaffee game were included in Wednesday's high school roundup. The Southeast Missourian relies on teams to provide information from their games.)

Tigers love

I'M WONDERING why the Central softball team did not make the paper. They defeated Perryville 8-0 on Monday but Jackson's game was in the paper. I don't understand that. Central is the local high school. We need a little support to back the Tigers a little bit. Some of us were a little disappointed in the Southeast Missourian that they didn't even put Central's ballgame in the paper Tuesday. It was a huge victory, it was their first game. I think that should have made the paper. Just really disappointed in the Southeast Missourian. You all really need to back your Tigers instead of all the outside schools. Central is the high school for Cape Girardeau.

(Central's opening victory was on Page 3B in Tuesday's edition. The Jackson-Chaffee game was chosen as the lead story because of the recent success of the two programs: Chaffee won a district title in Class 1 as recently as 2005, while Jackson was a district runner-up last year and has eight returning starters from the 18-10-1 team.)

I love kids

I WOULD like to tell you what a poor job the Sports department is doing on covering the Little League World Series. It wasn't mentioned in the radio and TV highlights for Aug. 18. None of the results are mentioned or who's playing today and I think there's about four or five games scheduled for TV today. Hope we can do a better job of that. Not doing too good right now.

Other sports

FASCINATING AS it is to read sports stories about football players who aren't in town anymore or have opted not to play, how about stories about other fall sports teams, like soccer or cross country?

(The preview for boys soccer is in today's edition, and cross country is coming Wednesday.)
