To the editor:Nine days in Wichita, Kan., at the NBC World Series was just right for me.
I got to see the Plaza Tire Capahas in action, doing what they do best and looking good doing it.
You get all sorts of managers in a 42-team field, and Jess Bolen stood out like a diamond. The sportsmanship award had special meaning in this year's series as there would have been quite a competition for an "unsportsmanlike" award.
The Capahas' finishing in seventh place, Zak Blemker making the all-American team, Chad Mercado getting scouted, Philip Riley pitching two gems, a third-best team batting average of .321 were notable, but the sportsmanship award was the icing on the cake.
There are a lot of ways to win a ballgame. Jess Bolen does it the right way and with a lot of class.
I'd like to give a big, long distance "Shout Out" to Cape Girardeau: "You have a lot to be proud of."
