Eureka scored 17 points during a span of about 3 minutes in the third quarter Friday night as the host Wildcats rallied past Jackson 30-22 in the Class 5 District 1 opener.

Jackson (5-3) led 14-13 at halftime, but Eureka went ahead for good on a short field goal with about 7 minutes left in the third quarter. It was Eureka's first lead of the game.

After a Jackson fumble, Eureka (5-3) scored on a 40-yard touchdown pass with 5:46 remaining in the period for a 23-14 lead.

The Indians were forced to punt on their next offensive possession and a 47-yard run by the Wildcats with 4:07 left made it 30-14.

Jackson finally scored again with just 55 seconds left in the game as quarterback Rex Meyr ran in from 4 yards out. Meyr hit Alex Austin for the two-point conversion, but Eureka recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.

Scotty City 57, Grandview 6

Scott City won its fourth straight game by pounding host Grandview in the Class 2 District 2 opener.

Cody Carlyle had three touchdown runs for the Rams (5-3), while Shae Simmons ran for two touchdowns and Jamie Pinkston caught two touchdown passes from Ethan Watkins, who three for three scores.

Dexter 31, Perryville 0

Perryville was shut out at home in its Class 3 District 1 opener.

Perryville (4-4) had only 96 total yards of offense compared to 412 yards by Dexter (7-1).

The Pirates were led by Kris Cottner with 60 yards rushing on 16 carries, while Tyler Bauwens had six receptions for 64 yards.
