Michele Jett of Southeast Missouri State has been named to the second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America track and field team.
Jett, who recently completed her eligibility at Southeast, was the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference indoor and outdoor pole vault champion. She also won OVC indoor and outdoor pole vault titles in 2004 and was an NCAA regional qualifier in both 2004 and 2006.
In the classroom, Jett has a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in nursing. She was also a three-time OVC Medal of Honor winner and a four-time Southeast Scholar Athlete, in addition to being on the Dean's list at Southeast for four years.
"It is awesome to be named an Academic All-American," Jett said. "Just looking at the list of All-Americans shows me what an elite group I have joined. I am proud of my accomplishments on the track and in the classroom at Southeast."
Said Southeast coach Joey Haines, "Michele was a talented athlete who worked very hard to become a championship pole vaulter. She also worked hard in the classroom to become a 4.0 student in a very tough nursing program."
