~ The Cardinals' center fielder had two hits in his first game of spring training.

JUPITER, Fla. -- Jim Edmonds went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI in his first spring training game, and St. Louis beat Baltimore 5-0 on Saturday.

"I actually wasn't trying to do too much," Edmonds said. "My first at-bat, I was just trying to see the ball and not try to pull off. The second time, I was just trying to play to the situation and hit a fly ball with Scott [Rolen] on third."

After fouling the first pitch he saw off his shoe, Edmonds singled to left field to lead off the second inning. He doubled down the left-field line to drive in Rolen in the fourth.

"His first swing was really solid, then he hit that RBI double," Rolen said.

Edmonds made a heads-up play defensively in the first inning, racing from center field to left to track down a ball Melvin Mora hit when Larry Bigbie lost the ball in the sun.

"I could hear Larry out there, and he was saying, 'Oh, God!' and he didn't want to call it. You really couldn't blame him," Edmonds said.

Rolen went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and stole third base off Orioles pitcher Vic Darensbourg in the fourth inning.

Edmonds and Rolen are both traveling with the club for the three-game road trip to Orlando and Tampa when the Cardinals play the Atlanta Braves for two and then the New York Yankees.

"I know I'm not playing tomorrow, but I don't know if I'm going every other day," Edmonds said. "Probably just Monday, Tuesday."

Edmonds said Tony LaRussa told him he didn't have to go today, but Edmonds said he wanted to go to Orlando.

"I love that atmosphere; it's awesome," Edmonds said. "It's like being in a big-league ballpark. We get a lot of fans up there. The background is great to hit out of because it's more like what you're used to in a big-league stadium. I'm interested to see what Tampa looks like."

Jason Marquis threw three scoreless innings, scattering four hits with one walk. Jason Isringhausen picked up the win by throwing a scoreless fourth inning.
