East Prairie shuts out Oak Ridge on Senior Night

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — On Senior Night, the East Prairie baseball team played like champions, winning 12-0 against Oak Ridge on Thursday, May 4 at H.A. Jones Memorial Park in East Prairie, Missouri.

“I can’t say enough good things about these three seniors,” said East Prairie coach Gary Scott. “They’ve been a pleasure to coach for sure. They have helped our program over the last couple of years. We will miss them.

“Each one of them is very coachable,” he continued. “They show up to work every day and have great attitudes. They help make my job easier. They do things the right way. They’re all winners on and off the field.”

The Eagles (14-11) led 8-0 after scoring four runs in each of the first and second innings.

The first-inning runs came after Rafe Byassee singled to score Noah Johnson, Peyton Hodges scored on a sacrifice fly, Will Jarvis singled, and Jarvis scored on a ground out.

The second-inning runs came after a single by Hodges scored Rayne Jerrigan; Byassee and Hodges scored on errors; and Byassee scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles extended the lead to 11-0 in the third inning after Tate Henderson and Leven Turner scored on an error, and Winfield White scored on a sacrifice fly.

East Prairie added its final run in the fourth inning after Jack Pearson scored on a fielder’s choice.

“We did a great job today of scoring some runs early to help take some stress off of our pitchers and defense,” Scott said. “It was nice to see the bats working well today.”

Owen Knight earned the win after he pitched four innings and didn’t give up any runs on one hit with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Johnson threw the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out three.

“Owen Knight pitched well today and [Johnson] did a great job closing it,” Scott concluded.

Camren Volz took the loss for the Blue Jays (5-10) after he allowed four earned runs on five hits.

East Prairie host Naylor (6-10) on Friday, May 5, Bloomfield (6-11) on Monday, May 8, and travel to Van Buren (13-13) for its regular-season finale on Wednesday, May 10.
