SENATH -- Dunklin County avenged its only district loss of the season by sweeping Ford & Sons Cape Legion in a doubleheader Saturday.
Dunklin County, which suffered its lone district loss Wednesday in a doubleheader split with Cape, posted a 10-7 victory in Saturday's opener and a 10-0, five-inning win in the nightcap.
Ford & Sons (16-18) led the opener 7-3 before Dunklin County scored seven unanswered runs. The final blow was a three-run home in the bottom of the seventh that ended the game.
Dustin Glastetter suffered the loss in relief of Steve Fowler. Glastetter pitched the final 1 1-3 innings and allowed three hits and three runs. Fowler pitched the first 5 2-3 innings, surrendering six runs and 14 hits. He struck out three and walked no one.
Cape Legion scored six of its runs on three two-run homers. Mark Fisher opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the first and Scott Reinagel upped the lead to 4-0 with a home run in the second. Leading 5-3 in the fifth, Garrett Broshuis homered for a 7-3 lead. Broshuis also had a double for two of Cape's eight hits.
Dunklin County scored one run in the fifth and tied the game 7-7 with three runs in the sixth.
"After we lost the first game the way we did, we were down a little bit that last game," said Ford & Sons coach Ron Michel.
Cape managed just one hit in the nightcap, a second-inning single off the bat of Tommy Wencewicz.
Mark Ostendorf suffered the loss, allowing 11 hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Dunklin County struck for four runs in the first and two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Cape Legion returns to action Monday night when Jackson visits Capaha Field for a 6 p.m. doubleheader.
