SENATH, Mo. -- The Ford & Sons American Legion team from Cape Girardeau suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Dunklin County Tuesday night, losing the opener 7-1 then falling 10-0 in the nightcap.

Garrett Broshuis suffered the loss in the first game, a contest which was tied 1-1 going into the sixth inning. In six innings, Broshuis allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits, a walk and four strikeouts.

Playing on a short field, Dunklin County hit two home runs in the sixth that barely cleared the fence.

Mark Fisher and Wes Steele each had hits in the opener, but Cape's only run was scored on a wild pitch.

Cape managed just four hits in the second game as pitcher Matt Jones struggled with his control. He threw six innings and walked 10 while allowing nine earned runs. He gave up eight hits and struck out two.

Cape has played seven games since Sunday. After winning the Capaha Classic, Cape has dropped three of its last four.

"We're just worn out right now," said Cape manager Ron Michel. "We're kind of crippled so it was a bad time to play a tough team like Dunklin County."

"About half the team has sore arms right now," said Michel, who added that he still has some players out on vacations. "We're trying to get healed up and we'll hit a better streak pretty soon. We're going to end up winning a lot of games."

Cape fell to 10-5 on the season and 4-4 in District 14 play.
