Department of Conservation
Duck Creek Conservation Area will be open to duck and goose hunting during the 2001-02 waterfowl season.
On-going construction which caused the Missouri Department of Conservation to close hunting during the early teal season will be completed by the end of November.
Construction was necessary to work on Ditch 111 and the associated east levee of Unit A. No hunting will be allowed in Unit A until after the contractor has vacated the area. Hunting can begin in unit blinds 14, 15, 16 and 18 the day after the premises is vacated. The blinds are located in A Pool and B Pool of Unit A. Both pools are being pumped up and will be ready for waterfowl season.
The C Pool and D Pool of Unit A will be pumped following completion of the construction project. Blinds in those pools will be put into the morning draw as soon as adequate water levels are achieved.
MDC predicts sufficient water in Pool 1 to flood both Pool 2 and Pool 3. The latter two pools will be ready for opening day. Blinds located there will be available in the morning draw.
The federal Youth Only Waterfowl Hunt will be Oct. 27-28 in the Middle Zone. Hunting positions will be limited on Duck Creek because Unit A blinds can not be hunted. Some hunting should be available in Pool 2. Anyone considering Duck Creek as a youth hunting site should call for up-to-date information.
No reservations will be accepted for Blind L2, one of two disabled blinds on Duck Creek, until after the construction is completed. Reservations for Blind L1 can be made by calling the MDC Cape Girardeau Regional Service Center at 290-5730.
