DONIPHAN — The Doniphan Dons used early offense to take down South Iron 9-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers got on the board first in the top of the opening frame, but Doniphan responded with four runs in the second and third innings while adding one in the bottom of the sixth to take its 11th victory of the season.
Maddox Baucom had two hits and an RBI for the Dons while Ben Killian drove in three runs in the victory.
J.D. Burton and Garrett Griffin added a hit and an RBI with Keaton Willcut and Lane Dean adding singles in the win.
Burton earned the victory on the mound, going three innings while allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out five. Willcut threw the final frame to earn the save.
The Dons will start play in the Class 4 District 1 Tournament Friday at 11 a.m. against Dexter, with the winner taking on Notre Dame at 4 p.m. on Monday.
Neelyville shuts out Campbell
The Neelyville Tigers cruised by the Campbell Camels 7-0 Tuesday in Neelyville.
The Tigers’ next matchup comes Monday when they play in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament against the winner of Senath-Hornersville and Holcomb, with those two hitting the field on Friday.
