The Bell City boys basketball team had its 14-game win streak snapped by host Doniphan in a 75-62 loss Thursday night.

The Cubs (22-4) had not lost since they fell to Charleston in the third-place game of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament on Dec. 30.

Bell City, a Class 1 team, had a 54-52 advantage with just over six minutes to play, but Doniphan (22-3 and ranked No. 6 in Class 3) sank the Cubs with a 14-2 run over the next 3 minutes.

Jeff Liggins led the Cubs with 19 points. Nick Niemcyzk netted 18, and Phillip Gross added 10.

Scott City rallied from a 14-point deficit in the final 3 minutes and 45 seconds to win at Caruthersville.

Sophomore Alex King capped the comeback with a layin with 4 seconds left off a pass from Andy Stephens.

"He made a heck of a pass," Scott City coach Lance Amick said. "Alex was open under the basket and Andy found him."

Freshman Shae Simmons hit two 3-pointers in the comeback.

King and Ethan Watkins each scored 20 points for the Rams (10-13). Stephens added 19.

Scott City hit 12 3-pointers -- including five by Stephens and five by Watkins -- but made just 7 of 21 free throws. The teams combined to shoot 20 of 52 on free throws.

"It wasn't a pretty display of free throw shooting," Amick said.
