VAN BUREN — The Doniphan Donettes cruised in their first game of the season as they took down Willow Springs 63-27 in the semifinals of the Van Buren Lady Dawg Classic at VBHS.

Doniphan head coach Adam Epps said his team would play fast this season and the Donettes lived up to their coach’s word as it was a back-and-forth game from Doniphan for the duration.

The Donettes used hot shooting to take an early 10-0 lead which would grow to 18-9 after one.

Doniphan held Willow Springs to single digits in multiple quarters as the Donettes led 34-14 at the break.

Freshman Carsyn Hagood scored 15 of her game-high 27 points in the second half as it was more of the same from the Donettes.

Kenzie Redus added 11 points for the Donettes.

Doniphan will play in the tournament final at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Consolation Semifinals

Twin Rivers 55, Koshkonong 13

The Twin Rivers Lady Royals bounced back after an opening night loss to take down Koshkonong 55-13 in the consolation semifinals of the Lady Dawg Classic

New Twin Rivers head coach Michael Snider said Tuesday’s game was about getting more comfortable in the offense, in addition to bouncing back after a loss on Monday to Bunker in the tournament’s first round.

“The goal coming into today ... I wanted to see us be more comfortable with the ball and running our offense,” Snider said.

Amelia Douglas led the Lady Royals with 22 points while Reese Crisman also finished in double digits with 10 points.

Twin Rivers will play in the consolation final at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
