Slowly but surely, donations for the Kohlfeld Capahas baseball team continued to come in Wednesday.

A fund drive to help support the Capahas' trip to the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan., began on Monday when the Southeast Missourian kicked things off with a $500 donation.

On Tuesday, $925 came in from four sources: businesses Horizon Music and Dohogne Precision Metal and individuals Mike Uhls and John "Doc" Yallaly.

Then on Wednesday -- as the Capahas prepared to leave for Wichita later that night -- a total of $300 more came in from four individuals: Howard Bock, Mark Hogan, Glenn Smart and Charles Stiver.

In addition, Capahas' manager Jess Bolen said that McDowell Ford of Perryville has donated two vehicles for the trip to Wichita.

"We appreciate everything that people have done for us so far," said Bolen. "Some people have told us they'll make some more contributions as long as we win one game this weekend, which means we'll be going back out to Wichita the following weekend."

The Capahas will open play in the 32-team, double-elimination event Friday at 10 p.m. against Clarinda, Iowa. Kohlfeld will play again Sunday, either at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m., before returning to Cape Girardeau.

If the Capahas win at least one game this weekend, then they'll return to Wichita for further action the following weekend.
