POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Kelly pitcher Danielle Dock struck out 15 in a one-hit shutout as the Hawks beat Poplar Bluff 4-0 on Tuesday.

Dock fanned nine of the first 10 batter she faced and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning when Poplar Bluff freshman Ally Brooks hit a clean single to left.

"She had a real good game," Kelly coach Rhonda Ratledge said. "She's on a good groove."

Londyn Backfisch gave Kelly (13-4) the lead in the top of the first with a two-run home run. Backfisch cleared the fence in left-center field, scoring Kristen Powell, who reached on an error. It was the third home run for the No. 3 hitter, who finished the day 1 for 4.

"When she turns on the ball it usually comes off the bat pretty hard," Ratledge said.

The bottom of Kelly's lineup -- Nos. 6 through 9 -- was a combined 6 for 13 with three hits by Vinyard.

The Hawks left 10 runners stranded, including three in the sixth when Kelly loaded the bases with nobody out. Poplar Bluff pitcher Brandy Perry struck out the heart of Kelly's lineup to get out of the jam.

Perry, who struck out five and gave up two earned runs, had her streak of innings without giving up a walk snapped in the fourth at 38.

Poplar Bluff (11-6) had just two baserunners as Dock hit a batter with two outs in the first inning, and the Mules didn't put the ball in play until the fourth. Dock had a strikeout in each inning and struck out the side four times.
