DEERING, Mo. — Charleston’s Will Dixon showcased his talents both on the mound and at the plate in an 11-3 victory over the Delta Bobcats on Thursday, March 21.

Dixon, a key part of the Blue Jays (1-2) rotation, tossed 6.0 strong innings, allowing just two earned runs on three hits. He struck out 10 batters and issued three walks in a dominant performance.

"Dixon was really good on the mound today," said Charleston coach Michael Minner. "He mixed up a couple of pitches and stayed in the strike zone. He's really worked hard to become a better arm for us."

Dixon's offensive contributions were just as impressive. The multi-talented athlete went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. CJ Kimble (2-for-4 with a triple and a RBI) and Bryant Gunn (1-for-1 with a home run) also provided offensive firepower for the team.

"Gunn has improved at the plate," Minner said. "He connected with a big fly, and Dixon and Kimble had two hits apiece. They've done some really good things at the plate. Stewart Coon had a big hit to drive in three runs."

Despite their youth, the Blue Jays seem to be finding their rhythm, according to their coach.

"We're young and trying to learn the game," Minner said. "We're going to take some lumps at times but I feel like we're going to compete. These guys are great kids and they're working to get better. It's nice to see their efforts rewarded with a win. We hope there's some more coming as we progress as a group."

Charleston travels to Meridian (Ill.) on Wednesday, March 28.
