JACKSON -- Chaffee's Junior American Legion baseball team rallied for six runs in the seventh inning Sunday then got a game-ending home run from Adam Seyer in the eighth to beat Sikeston 9-8 and claim the District 14 Tournament at Legion Field.
Chaffee, the defending district champion, won all three of its tourney games to improve its overall record to 28-14. Chaffee now advances to Thursday's zone tournament in St. Louis
Trailing 7-1 in the seventh inning, Chaffee strung together six of its 10 game-total hits to tie the score and send the contest into extra innings. Adam Friga's two-out, two-run double tied the score 7-7.
"We didn't hit nothing for six innings and then we did it all in the seventh," said Chaffee coach Jeff Graviett.
Despite allowing a run in the top of the eighth inning, Matt Stroup picked up his second win of the tournament. He also had a save in Chaffee's other win.
Said Graviett: "Matt pitched big for us."
Seyer made Stroup the winner with his game-ending home run in the bottom of the eighth. Todd Friend had three hits and three RBIs for Chaffee and teammate John O'Rourke added two hits and hurled the first seven innings, allowing only three hits.
