Diamondbacks roll past Giants 5-3

SAN FRANCISCO -- Mark Grace hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning Tuesday to lead Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks over the San Francisco Giants 5-3.

Barry Bonds hit a solo homer and an RBI double for the Giants, who dropped two games back of the first-place Diamondbacks in the NL West. The Dodgers fell a half-game back of Arizona with a 9-2 loss to St. Louis.

Johnson (13-3) allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings and struck out seven, moving within eight of teammate Curt Schilling, who leads the major leagues with 191.

Felix Rodriguez (3-5) was the loser. Byung-Hyun Kim got two outs for his 26th save.

Mets 10, Marlins 5

NEW YORK -- Edgardo Alfonzo homered and drove in four runs, and Mo Vaughn added a two-run shot as Florida's longest losing streak this season stretched to six. The Marlins haven't won since trading Cliff Floyd and Ryan Dempster last Thursday.

Al Leiter (9-7) beat the Marlins for the first time in four tries this season, giving up four runs and six hits in six innings, and Timo Perez hit a bases-loaded triple.

Josh Beckett (2-4), who had been sidelined since June 4 because of blisters, allowed seven runs -- six earned -- and five hits in five innings.

Braves 2, Cubs 0

CHICAGO -- Kevin Millwood (8-5) struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings and allowed just two hits, winning his sixth straight decision.

Chipper Jones and Henry Blanco each drove in runs for the Braves, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Jon Lieber (6-7) allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings and struck out six.

Pirates 7, Astros 3

HOUSTON -- Brian Giles hit a three-run homer and a sacrifice fly.

Roy Oswalt (10-6) allowed six runs and nine hits in seven innings, struck out eight and walked none. Houston lost its third straight following a five-game winning streak.

Josh Fogg (10-6) gave up three runs, seven hits and four walks in five innings. Brian Boehringer pitched two innings for his first save since last Oct. 4, also at Houston.

Phillies 6, Expos 3

MONTREAL -- Marlon Anderson hit a three-run double and Randy Wolf hit an RBI single and pitched seven strong innings as Philadelphia completed a two-game sweep over Montreal.

Anderson's bases-clearing double chased Tony Armas (8-9) to cap Philadelphia's five-run outburst in the fourth. The Phillies scored eight runs in the ninth Monday for an 11-8 comeback win.

Wolf (5-6), who also doubled, allowed seven hits and three runs as he won for just the second time in his last 10 starts.

Travis Lee hit his eighth homer off reliever Dan Smith with one out in the seventh as the Phillies completed a 4-2 road trip. Philadelphia has won 14 of its last 19 road games.

Reds 6, Brewers 1

MILWAUKEE -- Elmer Dessens scattered three hits over six innings and Jason LaRue homered twice as Cincinnati beat Milwaukee for the second straight time.

Brewers hard-luck right-hander Ben Sheets (4-11) scattered seven hits in seven innings, walking none and striking out eight. His only mistake was a 93 mph fastball that LaRue sent over the fence in left for his third homer of the season in the fifth.

That was the game's only run until the Reds scored five times in the eighth, three on LaRue's second homer, this one off Jason Durocher.

The Brewers, who fell to 2-11 against the Reds this season, including 0-6 at Miller Park, loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Dessens (6-5) worked his way out of the jam unscathed.
