DELTA, Mo. -- Delta's undefeated girls basketball season came to an end Saturday with a 57-47 loss to Dexter in the final of the Delta New Year's Tournament.
Dexter jumped on the Bobcats (10-1) early, outscoring Delta 12-4 in the first quarter. Amy Rose was key for Dexter, hitting five 3-pointers in the first half, helping Dexter build a 31-16 lead at half.
Rose led Dexter with 19 points. Rebecca Cook led the host Bobcats with 20 points. Rebecca Below had 18.
In the third-place game, Twin Rivers cruised past St. Vincent. Amanda Lance led Twin Rivers with 24 points. Chelsea Brown led the Squaws with 18.
Chaffee won the consolation title by defeating Woodland in overtime 44-36. Amy Holmes led Chaffee with 13 and Wendy Vandeven added 10. Candice Abner scored 22 in a losing effort. Chaffee improved to 3-6.
Eagle Ridge 29, Grace Christian 10
Rachel Carbaugh scored 13 points to help Eagle Ridge improve to 4-2 overall.
Autumn Crowden also had a big game for the Eagles (4-2), with nine points, nine rebounds and five steals.
BOYS BASKETBALL
East Carter Co. 72, Scott City 71
Scott City lost a close game on the road at Ellsinore.
After going into the half tied at 32, East Carter County grabbed a 51-50 lead at the end of the third quarter. Scott City (8-3) had a chance to win after East Carter grabbed the lead with 14 seconds left, but the Rams' final play shot in and out.
Tyler Ward led Scott City with 19 points and 15 rebounds, and D.J. Walton and Andy Beck added 16 points apiece.
St. Vincent 55, St. Pius 48
St. Vincent used an 11-0 run to push past St. Pius in the third-place game of the Ste. Genevieve Tournament.
After going into halftime up 29-25, St. Pius opened the third with an 11-0 run to grab a seven-point lead. The Indians (4-4) kept it close and ended with an 11-0 run.
Alex Armbruster led the Indians with 15 points. Aaron Rellergert added 14.
Grace Christian 47, Eagle Ridge 41
Andrew Mellies recorded a double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles lost on the road.
Mellies scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Eagle Ridge (4-5). Phillip Brock added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
WRESTLING
Central places second
Central finished 3-1 in dual meets and took second place at the Marquette Tournament in St. Louis.
Trever Duncan led the Tigers with their only first place finish at 160 pounds. Matt Welker and Jonathan Poston each took second, and Cory Huskey placed third.
The Tigers got fourth-place finishes from Tanner Rust, Jason Poole and Brandon Hinkle, and sixth-place finishes from Chris Griffith and Dan Coonce.
JV/FRESHMEN EVENTS
Central's junior-varsity wrestling team produced a champion and two second-place finishers at an eight-team meet in Jackson. Russell Smith (160 pounds) won, while Aja Reutzel (125) and Joey Hodge (119) finished second.
Central's eighth-grade boys basketball team lost at Poplar Bluff 42-26. Matt Hefter led Central with nine points.
Central's ninth-grade boys basketball team won 35-34 at Poplar Bluff. Anthony Hempstead led the Tigers with 10 points.
Saxony Lutheran won its eighth in a row Saturday, defeating St. Louis Lutheran North 48-40. Tim Lorenz led Saxony Luthern with 20 points. Casey Petzoldt added 16 points and 12 rebounds.
