The Dexter Golf Team is headed to state after a second place finish in the district tournament at Ste. Genevieve.

The Bearcats finished with a score of 329, just two strokes behind St. James, who finished with a 327

“So proud of how these kids responded and competed today on the golf course,” said Dexter coach Eric Sitze. “This is a young bunch and hopefully we learned a few things today that will help us next week and next year.”

This team is indeed young, as there are no seniors on the team. The varsity team is comprised of two juniors, two sophomores and a freshman.

“We needed 3 more strokes for 1st, but still really proud of what they were able to accomplish today,” Sitze continued. “Big shout out to Alyssa (Warren) for making the cut on her own just in case the team didn’t qualify shooting 90.”

Warren, the only girl on Dexter’s varsity team, plays the blue tees just like the boys. Generally girls will play from a set of tees closer to the pin. However, in MSHAA team play all tee off from the same set.

“Shout out to Ben (Christian who shot a 77) and Tucker (Temples who shot a 78) showing that maturity and bringing some experience to this year’s district making All District finishing 3rd and 4th,” said Sitze. “Banks (Nesselrodt) also did a great job bouncing back after some tough middle holes and finishing +2 on his last 7 holes to make All District finishing in 11th place with a 84. Last but not least Ethan (Zabelin) worked really hard the last 3 or 4 days to try and get it figured out. I really appreciate his effort and positive attitude during a tough round.”

The Bearcat Golf Team will travel to Sedalia to compete in the state tournament on May 15 and 16.
