ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Ryan Rupe pitched his first career complete game, and John Flaherty hit his second career grand slam Tuesday night as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Mariners manager Lou Piniella was ejected after Seattle batted in the eighth inning for arguing with home plate umpire John Shulock. Piniella kicked on home plate nine times before getting down on one knee and using his hands to completely cover the plate with dirt.

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 4

TORONTO -- Toronto closer Kelvim Escobar (1-2) walked Jason Varitek and Trot Nixon with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

Jose Offerman hit a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who rallied after Pedro Martinez allowed four runs in the first two innings. Martinez, who hasn't lost in seven decisions this season, got a no-decision after allowing four runs and seven hits in six innings.

Yankees 4, White Sox 2

CHICAGO -- Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams sparked an eighth-inning rally with RBI singles, and Rondell White doubled in the go-ahead runs.

Ted Lilly (2-4) allowed three hits in seven innings for the Yankees.

Athletics 5, Orioles 2

BALTIMORE -- Mark Mulder won for the first time since April 6, allowing one earned run over six innings as Oakland defeated Baltimore.

Eric Chavez and Adam Piatt both hit two-run homers off Calvin Maduro (2-5) for the A's, whose fourth straight victory matched a season high.

Indians 4, Tigers 2

CLEVELAND -- Chuck Finley struck out 11, including a club record-tying six straight, and Travis Fryman drove in three runs to lead Cleveland.

Finley (3-6) gave up two runs and two hits in the first inning but then dominated. He retired 20 of 21 before Brandon Inge opened the eighth with an infield single to end Finley's night.

Royals 7, Angels 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Paul Byrd gave up three runs before retiring a batter, but settled down to earn his eighth win.

Byrd (8-2) gave up a two-run homer to Darin Erstad and a solo blast to Troy Glaus in the first, but didn't allow another run until Garret Anderson's solo homer with one out in the eighth.

Twins 11, Rangers 4

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Jacque Jones hit a grand slam and tied a career high with five RBIs.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 15th homer to take over the AL lead, but the Rangers lost for the 10th time in 11 games.
