Demarcus Sharp is on the move again.
The former Charleston High School standout and Southland Conference Player of Year this past season recently announced on social media his plans to transfer to Austin Peay University.
Gipson played this past season for head coach Corey Gipson and Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana where he averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 46 percent from the field 81 percent from the free throw line and 55 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
“Coach Gipson is family on top of everything else,” Sharp said. “He'll keep putting me in advantageous positions so I can achieve my goals and succeed. He only wants the best for me and my upcoming colleagues. Also, he shapes us all to be successful, which is Austin Peay was the best choice for me.”
Sharp is a phenomenal shot-creator and one of the top prospects in the transfer portal. He heard from multiple Division-1 programs including Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri and St. Louis.
But ultimately decided to follow Gipson, a Sikeston native and Richland High School graduate, who recently accepted the head coach position at Austin Peay.
Sharp is the fourth player that has transferred from Northwestern State to Austin Peay.
Sharp played two years at Missouri State before transferring to Northwestern State. He was selected to All-Missouri Valley Newcomer Team in 2021 after averaging eight points and nearly four assists per game.
