Delta swept a softball doubleheader from visiting district rival Chaffee on Tuesday. The Bobcats prevailed 3-2 in the seven-inning opener and 7-5 in the five-inning finale. Sarah Cook pitched complete games in both contests for the Bobcats, who improved to 11-8 and dropped the Red Devils to 5-4...

Delta swept a softball doubleheader from visiting district rival Chaffee on Tuesday. The Bobcats prevailed 3-2 in the seven-inning opener and 7-5 in the five-inning finale.

Sarah Cook pitched complete games in both contests for the Bobcats, who improved to 11-8 and dropped the Red Devils to 5-4.

In the opener, Cook struck out 11, walked one and allowed three hits. She ended things in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI triple that scored Kaci Menz, who had singled, and broke a 2-2 tie.

Cook had two hits and two RBIs in the opener, while Jenny Dannenmueller and Krystal Burnett also both had two hits.

Chaffee pitcher Courtney Walter allowed five hits through six innings of the opener before leaving with an injury.

In the second game, Cook allowed six hits, struck out six and walked one. Jess Livingston had two hits, and Cook drove in two runs.

For Chaffee, Mindy Hendrix had two hits, including a homer.

Hoffman got the win, allowing two hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Holloway earned a save with 1 2/3 one-hit innings. She worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth.

The Tigers had only three hits but took advantage of eight Sikeston errors.

Notre Dame batters struck out 14 times and had just five hits, stringing three together in the bottom of the seventh for two runs. Freshman Heather Menz had a two-run double. Schlosser was 2-for-3 with a double.

Essner was the winning pitcher. She struck out five and allowed one hit over three shutout innings to finish the game. Whitney Beggs worked the first five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run with five strikeouts.
