The Delta softball team opened its season Saturday afternoon at home with a sloppy 8-2 loss to Poplar Bluff.
Poplar Bluff scored five runs in the first, and by the third inning the Mules were ahead 8-0.
Sarah Cook took the loss, allowing five hits with five strike outs and no walks. Only one of Poplar Bluff's eight runs was earned.
Kacie Menz had a pair of hits and three steals to lead Delta's five-hit attack. Freshman Sarah Blattel had a double and scored a run, and Cook added an RBI sacrifice fly.Poplar Bluff 8, Delta 2

Ursuline Academy 3, Central 2
Central improved from its opening game but still suffered a home loss.
Katie Mothershead was 3-for-4 for Central, which had four hits. With two outs in the seventh Mothershead hit a triple but was stranded at third.
Kelsy Holloway took the loss, running into trouble in the third inning when Ursuline got all three of its runs. Callie Hoffman pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for Central.

Late Friday Notre Dame 10, Perryville 1
Notre Dame improved to 2-0 with a home win on Friday.
Beth Schnurbusch pitched seven innings for her second win. She struck out four and allowed three hits.
The Bulldogs exploded for 13 hits, including three from Miranda Schlosser. Alana Weissmueller and Schnurbusch had two hits apiece. Whitney Ostendorf and Heather Menz added triples, and Kristain Burger added a double.
Volleyball
Eagle Ridge def. Heartland 25-11, 25-10Eagle Ridge picked up its first win of the season Friday night against Heartland Christian Academy of Poplar Bluff.
Chelsea Clark led the Eagles (1-2) with five aces, five points, three kills and three assists. Emily Schlegel added seven points, and Autumn Crowden had six points and two kills.
