DELTA -- Delta High's boys basketball team continued its strong early-season play Friday night, getting 20 points apiece from Garrett DeBrock and Andy Blattel in a tough 80-69 victory over visiting Bell City.
Delta, which improved its record to 4-1, also got a 16-point performance from Shawn Kinder and a 10-point night from Ryan Livingston.
The Bobcats used a strong, 28-point fourth quarter to overtake the Cubs. Bell City took a 23-15 lead in the first quarter and led 40-38 at halftime. The Cubs took a slim 53-52 lead into the final period, but were outscored 28-16.
Jacob Jenkins netted a team-high 15 points for Bell City, while Matt Knoderer tallied 14 and Jarrod Eftink scored 12.
Woodland 76, Chaffee 36
CHAFFEE -- Chaffee was no match for a strong Woodland team Friday night as the visiting Cardinals romped by 40 points.
Woodland (4-1) placed five players in double figures, led by David Massa with 16 points. Corey Yount had 15, Greg Lincoln 11, Jason Bandermann 10 and Nick Underwood 10.
Chaffee (0-4) was paced by Wayne McAllister with 10 points.
"Woodland is tough," said Chaffee coach Jim Stoverink. "They've got a good team."
The Cardinals led 19-9 after one quarter and 37-13 at halftime.
Puxico 67, Advance 52
ADVANCE -- Advance outscored visiting Puxico in the second half Friday night, but the Hornets were unable to overcome a slow start that netted just 12 first-half points.
Ryan Harmon led Puxico with 23 points. Gary Ahern of Advance (2-3) matched that total with 23 of his own.
Puxico took an 11-8 lead into the second quarter and proceeded to open up a 30-12 lead by halftime.
Marquand 76, Zalma 57
ZALMA -- Dusty Stephens poured in 29 points to lead Marquand past host Zalma Friday night.
Travis Braswell added 18 points for the Tigers (2-3) while Brandon Settle had 14.
Zalma (1-4) got 20 points from Josh Smith, 11 from Gandy Wade and 10 from Cory Stallings.
Marquand led 54-46 after three quarters and the Tigers pulled away down the stretch.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Park Hills 54, St. Vincent 37
PERRYVILLE -- Despite a game-high 19 points from Jessica Lakenan, St. Vincent fell at home Friday night.
The Squaws (1-4) trailed 20-14 at halftime and were outscored 34-23 in the second half.
St. Vincent will be right back in action tonight, hosting Notre Dame.
Perryville 54, New Madrid 44
NEW MADRID -- In a game from Thursday night, Laura Ernst netted 22 points to lead the Lady Pirates to victory over New Madrid.
Perryville improved to 4-1 with the victory.
The Lady Pirates extended their lead throughout. Leading 16-13 after one quarter, Perryville took a 29-23 advantage into halftime. The lead grew to 45-34 by the start of the fourth quarter.
