Top-seeded Delta defeated eighth-seeded Charleston 14-4 in five innings Friday in the first round of the Oran softball tournament.

The Bobcats (6-1) were led by pitcher Kayla Seabaugh, who threw all five frames, striking out five. Seabaugh also went 2-for-3 with a triple. Sarah Cook added two hits.

Delta will play Clearwater at 11:30 a.m today. Clearwater beat East Prairie 11-6.

Scott City, the No. 2 seed, shut down No. 7 New Madrid County Central 10-0 in another first- round game.

Emily Essner pitched six scoreless innings for the Rams (11-2). Kacie Cartwright went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kelley Hicks and Ashton Phillips added two hits apiece.

The Rams will face Oran today at 10 a.m. Oran defeated Oak Ridge 2-1 in eight innings on a bases-loaded single by Mandi Wood. Jami Pobst struck out 14 in eight innings for the win.

Kirk Boeller allowed one hit in five innings, and the Bulldogs' offense pounded out nine hits in a five-inning home win.

Boeller picked up his first win on the mound. In five innings, Boeller struck out four and walked two.

Shane Menz had three hits, including a home run and a double to go along with three RBIs for Notre Dame (7-5). Jacob Essner added two hits.

Chaffee tournament

Due to weather conditions Friday, the Chaffee baseball tournament was postponed this weekend. No makeup date has been set.

GIRLS SOCCER

Notre Dame 5, Poplar Bluff 1

Notre Dame beat Poplar Bluff at home to reach the .500 mark.

Meridith Medlin netted two goals for the Bulldogs (5-5-2), while Lauren Mehner, Allison Essner and Emily Blattel scored a goal apiece. Mehner, Medlin, Essner and Megan Robert each had an assist.

Claudia Brauss made eight saves in goal for Notre Dame.

TRACK Potosi Invitational

Josh Hayden won the 300 hurdles to help Perryville take third at the Potosi Invitational.

Jesse Kueker finished third in the 400, and Ryan Regelsperger was third in the 800.
