The Saxony Lutheran boys basketball team had no trouble winning its season opener Friday night. Leading host Chaffee 35-23 at halftime, the Crusaders outscored the Red Devils 37-4 in the second half to run away with a 72-27 victory. Max Wieser paced the Crusaders with 17 points. Ben Courtios had 12 points, followed by Clay Obergoenner and Austin Krwikkel with 10 apiece...

Max Wieser paced the Crusaders with 17 points. Ben Courtios had 12 points, followed by Clay Obergoenner and Austin Krwikkel with 10 apiece.

Andy Hendrix led Chaffee with eight points.

Oran tournament

Fourth-seeded Advance finished third by upsetting second-seeded Bell City 69-63.

Alex Steil scored 22 points to lead Advance (2-1), and Rusty Hendricks added 11.

Nick Niemczyk scored 24 for Bell City, while Will Bogan added 23.

Host Oran, the sixth seed, captured fifth place by beating fifth-seeded Kelly 55-38 in the consolation final.

The Eagles, who lost a close game to Scott County Central in the first round, were led by Chase Seyer with 21 points and Hunter Glastetter with 11.

Spencer Ayers had 12 points for the Hawks, who trailed 20-18 at halftime but were outscored 19-6 in the third quarter.

Steil made the all-tournament team from Advance, as did Bogan from Bell City.

Other first-teamers were Robbie Ison of Malden, Caleb Johnson of Scott County Central and Alonzo Louis of Malden.

Second-team selections were Seyer of Oran, Trenton Moses of Advance, Niemczyk of Bell City, Quentin Franks of Malden and D.D. Gillespie of Scott County Central.

Farmington tournament

After having all games postponed the last two days because of weather conditions and power outages, the Farmington tournament will resume at 9 a.m. today and conclude tonight, with the girls championship at 7 p.m. and the boys championship at 8:30 p.m.

Since Farmington High School is the only venue available, all consolation games have been canceled.

Jackson's girls will play in the semifinals against Belleville (Ill.) East at 10 a.m., while Jackson's boys will play in the semifinals against Normandy at 2:30 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALLNaylor tournament

Scott County Central won the championship of the Naylor tournament by beating the host team 40-39.

Brittney Peet scored 18 points to lead the Bravettes (2-0).
