Crossroads Ministries, 416 S. C St., will be the site for a free Super Bowl party and everyone is invited, organizers said.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday when the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs play in the annual National Football League championship game in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Not only is the party free to attend, it will be drug- and alcohol-free. Those attending may watch the game on the big screen television and enjoy the free food, said Anthony Rommel, who volunteers with the faith-based Crossroads Ministries program.

The menu will include barbecue, chicken wings, sliders and hot dogs. Rommel said, if someone stops in, eats and leaves, that’s fine.

“This will be our fourth year to have the party,” Rommel said. “We average between 250-300 people who come and eat and leave. That is fine. We don’t mind.”

Crossroads Ministries is a faith-based program for drug and alcohol recovery.

Rommel said a little 20-30 minute service will be held before the game.

“We do it every year to offer a free place for everyone to come and enjoy themselves and hang out.”

Rommel helps with Sunday services at 10-11 a.m. and 4 p.m., which are open to the public.

The program is designed for six months inpatient recovery.

“We roof houses,” Crossroads program director Jimi Waggoner said. “The guys work for us for the first four months. Once they make it to the four-month mark, we help them get a job. They save money the last two months. They’re here so they leave clean and sober with a job and money in their pocket.”
