JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Kelly's boys may not have shined individually, but as a team, the Hawks came away with the fourth-place trophy in the 2A competition at the Missouri Cross Country Championships.

Paced by Adam Daughhetee's 29th-place finish, the Hawks totaled 163 points to finish just three points ahead of Kansas City St. Pius. Daughhetee covered the 3.1-mile layout at Oak Hills Golf Course in Hough Park in 17:45.

Also comprising Kelly's team score were Ashley Hahn (39th, 17:59), Adam Lofton (45th, 18:03), Lance Scheffer (58th, 18:11) and Trey Simmons (101st, 18:39).

St. Francis Borgia repeated as the team champion with 98 points.

"We knew Borgia would be hard to beat and they ran up to their capabilities," said Kelly coach Bill Davis. "We felt we needed all five in the top 50 and we didn't quite do that."

In five trips to state over the past six years, Kelly has never finished worse than sixth.

"We're really excited about next year," said Davis. "We only lose one boy."

Perryville turned in the only two all-state performances by area runners. The Pirates finished a disappointing ninth in the 3A boys race, but saw Jacob Schneider finish 21st in 17:12 to earn all-state.

Perryville's lone female runner, Katrina Bockhorn, was also all-state, finishing 23rd in 20:33.

"There's no doubt we're disappointed in our team effort," said Perryville coach Joe Dandridge. "We felt we had the runners to do it. But I can't complain, those guys gave me a season a coach dreams of."

He was happy to have his first two all-state runners since taking over the reins of head coach.

"It couldn't of happened to two nicer kids," he said. "Both worked very hard and very deserving."

Runners from Cape Central, Jackson and Notre Dame also competed as individuals. Complete results can be found in Scoreboard on Page 4B.
