Redhawks to play on national TV
The Southeast Missouri State football team will receive some national exposure this season.
Southeast's first Ohio Valley Conference game of the 2008 campaign — at home against Tennessee Tech — will be televised by ESPNU on Sept. 11, a Thursday. The time of the contest has not yet been determined.
The Redhawks' OVC opener originally was scheduled for Sept. 13 at 6 p.m., but was moved up two days because of the national television slot.
Southeast opens the season Aug. 28 at home against Southwest Baptist.
Southeast gymnast Blake honored
Southeast junior gymnast Sandra Blake has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team as voted on by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An accounting major, Blake has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average during her three seasons at Southeast. She made the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll and captured National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) Scholar Athlete honors for her college career.
Blake helped the Redhawks earn a NCAA South Central Regional berth last month along with being named an all-around alternate for the NCAA national meet.
Blake is now eligible for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors, which will be announced next month.
Central grads earn honors
Southern Illinois University golfer Todd Obergoenner was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team.
Obergoenner, a Central alumnus, boasts a 4.0 grade-point average in university studies. He tied for the Salukis team lead with five rounds in the 60s.
Obergoenner also earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference men's golf scholar-athlete first team. He was joined by fellow Central alumnus Blake Driskell.
Obergoenner is a junior, while Driskell is a sophomore at SIU.
