Recently, there have been positive comments made in the Southeast Missourian about basketball coaches Mike Kiehne, Paul Hale and Darrin Scott.
I feel there is another area coach who deserves such recognition as well. Jackson High School is extremely lucky to have John Martin as part of its basketball program.
Coach Martin has been involved with Jackson basketball since he was a young boy. He eventually played for JHS and later coached in Jackson Optimist leagues and at Immaculate Conception Catholic School. He is currently approaching his fifth seaon as the junior varsity coach at Jackson High School.
His passion, dedication and loyalty toward Jackson basketball are obvious to all spectators when he is on and off the court. I encourage anyone who has not had the opportunity to see Coach Martin coach to attend a Jackson JV game this winter.
Coach Martin will overcome the disappointment he is experiencing right now since being overlooked for the head coaching position. His strong will and love for the game of basketball will withstand all.
On a personal note, sweetie, I couldn't be more proud.KEELY MARTIN
