Class 4 track and field: Jackson sends 15 athletes to state meet

The Jackson track and field team had 15 athletes post state-qualifying bids at Saturday's Class 4 Sectional 1 meet at Rockwood Summit High School in Fenton, Mo.

Four of the Indians captured first place: Dylan Rush (pole vault), Clay Darnell (discus), Sierra Maddox (pole vault) and Carli Knott (400 dash). Knott also ran on Jackson's fourth-place 3,200 relay team along with Ana Compton, Mollie Cunningham and Chelsea Drum. Morgan Stone also posted a fourth-place time of 26.43 seconds in the 200 dash for Jackson on the girls' side as the Indians finished three points behind host Rockwood Summit to take sixth place overall in the team standings.

On the boys' side, Dakota Maddox finished four inches behind Rush in the pole vault to take second place in the event. Nick Keser placed third in the shot put for the Indians and Blake Reimann finished fourth in the high jump. The 3,200 relay team composed of Gabe Dudley, Jack Jeffers, Calvin Lysell and Gabe Underwood took third for Jackson, which finished one point behind Christian Brothers College Preparatory to take fifth place overall in the team standings.

The 15 Jackson athletes who earned bids to state is the most that have qualified in recallable history, according to coach Jim Stoverink. The Indians will compete at the Class 4 state meet Friday and Saturday at the Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.
