Central senior Hannah Kinder put herself in position to win her first state swimming title by posting the top time in Friday's preliminaries in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events in the state meet at the St. Peter's Rec Plex.

The championship round is today, with the top eight swimming in one finals the next eight in the consolation finals for each event.

Kinder, who has been in the top three in two events each of the past two years, completed the 200 free in 1 minute, 50.95 seconds, and the 100 free in 51.09 seconds. The 200 free time was nearly 2 seconds faster than the second-fastest time, while Kinder was just ahead of two-time defending state champion Tarin Corwin in the 100 free.

Notre Dame sophomore Brittany Menz also made it through to the second day in both of her events, finishing 14th in the 50 freestyle in 25.34 seconds and 10th in the 100 free in 55.21. Menz will compete in the consolation finals in both events.
