Cape Central's golf team was sizzling Wednesday in its final regular-season match of the season, shooting a seven-over-par 147 as a team to beat Dexter by 25 strokes at Cape Coutry Club.

"That's our lowest score in quite a few years," said Central coach Dick Wadlington. "That's an outstanding high school score.

Danny Groesbeck won medalist honors with an even-par 35 over nine holes. Kent Phillips 36, Dane McLaird 38 and Bryan Welker 38 followed for the Tigers, who improved to 11-3-1.

"Maybe were starting to do some things right at right time of the year," Wadlington said.

District competition is up next for the Tiger golfers. Central's district will be held Monday at Quail Creek Golf Course in St. Louis' South County.

Cape Central 2, Notre Dame 1

Cape Central remained undefeated on the season with a victory Wednesday over Notre Dame at Shawnee Park.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Tigers scored the first two goals of the game to improve to 12-0-1. Katie Cozby scored at the eight-minute mark on an assist by Lorie Bittle and a minute later Amy Harris scored an unassisted goal to make the score 2-0.

Notre Dame's Jaymie Frank scored at the 28-minute mark on an assist from Jill Edwards to avoid the shutout. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-11-1.

Central's JV won 4-0 with goals from Katie Hawkins, Alyssa Holyfield, Erica McDonald and Heather Hey to improve its record to 7-1-1.

Central plays DeSoto today at Shawnee Park. Notre Dame plays at Jackson.
