A strong head wind slowed things down a little bit Saturday during the 32nd running of the Cape Relays, but three more meet records fell at Southeast Missouri State University's Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex.

After shattering five meet marks last year, Cape Central's girls were at it again with two new relay records.

The Lady Tigers' distance medley relay team of Tobie Bittle, Sarah Chaudhari, Myka Bohnsack and Kristen Tallent shattered the old mark by 19 seconds with a time of 13:12.

"That was a tremendous effort on their part," Central coach Jerry Dement said in amazement.

Those four girls also combined to win the 3200 meters in 10:00.96. Bittle, Chaudhari and Tallent also teamed with Amanda Hutteger to claim the 1600-meter relay and Bohnsack won the 3200-meter run in 12:28.98.

Central's triple jump relay team of Marissa Uzoara, Courtney Haman and Bonquita Cox combined to jump 98-10 3/4, eclipsing the old record of 98-7 set in 1986 by the Lady Tigers. Uzoara (triple jump) and Haman (high jump) also won individual titles and were members of the winning high jump relay team with Hannah Weir.

"Our field event relays -- both boys and girls -- had really good days overall," Dement said. "Our field events have really been good the last couple years -- they've been one of our strengths making us a well-rounded team."

Central's girls won four of the five field event relays, adding in the discus and shot put relays. Central's boys claimed the long jump relay, led by individual winner Chris Allen.

Teams from Perryville and Jackson also fared well in the meet which fielded teams from 12 different schools and four different states. Jackson's boys won the high jump relay, led by individual winner Kevin Bricknell, and got individual titles from Devree Flint (discus) and Nathan Windeknecht (triple jump). Sarah Stiegemeyer won the 1600 meters for the Lady Indians.

Perryville's boys won three relay titles and three individual crowns. Ryan Hohenadel was a member on two of the winning teams (3200 relay and distance medley) and also won the 3200-meter run over Central's Rory Kipper with a time of 10:19.76.

"Ryan's a heck of a competitor," said Perryville coach Craig Knaak. "That's probably his best 2-mile yet this season. We look for him to go to state in that and by then we're hoping he can break 10 minutes."

Jared Tanz and Nathan Davis teamed-up with Hohenadel on the two distance relays along with Tyson Brown, who also won the 1600 meters. Perryville's discus team of Wes Amberger, Cory Riney and Lyle Mudge also won.

Jason Rhyne, who just recently broke the 13-foot barrier in the pole vault, continued his meteoric improvement with a winning height of 14-0.

"He just busted 13 feet two track meets ago," said Knaak. "He's improving leaps and bounds at every track meet."

Poplar Bluff's Tenisha Britton, a two-time all-state performer, set a new meet record in the 300-meter hurdles by over 2-seconds with a winning time of 44:02.

Paducah-Tighlman's Danielle Carruthers, a two-time Kentucky all-stater who holds Cape Relay records in the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash, won both of those events while running into a strong head wind.
