Saxony Lutheran hurler Chris Roth tossed a complete game against Oak Ridge on Saturday, striking out eight batters to help the Crusaders capture the Oak Ridge Tournament.
That was one of two wins he posted this past week to improve his record to 4-0.
"He's a warrior and he just brings it every day," Saxony catcher Bret Steffens said. "It didn't surprise me at all that he had his best stuff when we needed it the most. ... He's a great leader of our team. He just leads our team and sets a great example. He comes in and works hard every day."
Roth also had a strong performance at the plate in Saturday's title game, going 3-for-4.
"He's been sporadic [offensively] until this tournament," Saxony coach Paul Sander said. "He hit well in this tournament."
Sander added about Roth's pitching: "He started strong from the start. I thought he had good pop on the ball and he mixed his pitches well. He's 4-0. I don't anybody in Southeast Missouri that's better than him."
