SCOTT CITY, Mo. — The Charleston boys’ track finished second at the MSHSAA Class 2, District 1 Track and Field Meet at Scott City High School on Saturday, May 6.

The Bluejays finished just five points behind Woodland for first place and had nine male athletes advance for the Class 2, Sectional 1 Meet at New Haven High School on Saturday, May 13.

“Our boys performed at a top level,” said Charleston coach Justin Hutchings. “It was a great accomplishment for our track program. Zecobyion Ewing and Kamarious Clark outdid themselves. We should have a great showing this Saturday and am excited to see who all qualifies for state.”

The team’s top performers were Trey Stanback, DJ Williams and Kimirion Wiley.

Stanback won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet-1.5 inches. He also claimed a silver medal in the triple jump after clearing 41.25.

Williams won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.61 seconds. He was followed by teammate Zecobyion Ewing who was second with a time of 22.83.

The Bluejays also claimed the top two spots in the 400 with Kamirion Wiley winning the event in 50.79 and Williams finishing second with a time of 50.90.

Bernard Betts was fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.41; Kamarious Clark was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.25; and Charles Davis was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 42-5.

Zachyran Thomas (19-8.25) and Tyri Sager (18-5.75) were third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump.

Charleston won the 400 and 800 relay with times of 44.07 and 1:29.85, respectively. The 400 relay team included Ewing, Betts, Stanback and Williams, while the 800 relay team was Ewing, Betts, Wiley and Williams.

Malden won the girls’ division with 115 points. Charleston was sixth with a team score of 47.

Claire Nichols won the javelin with a throw of 114-11, Treasure Kimble was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.45, and the Lady Bluejays 400 relay team of D’Nyia Turner, Zion Jones, Danish Thomas and Kimble placed fourth with a time of 52.36.

“Well even though I didn’t have a lot of girls get out to sectionals, they all set personal records all day and had a great meet,” Hutchings concluded.

CLASS 1, DISTRICT 1

The Scott County Central and Oran track teams competed at the MSHSAA Class 1, District 1 Meet at Scott City High School on Saturday, May 6.

Hayti won the boys’ division with a team score of 116, while St. Vincent was victorious in the girls’ division with 103 points.

Scott County Central placed eighth in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions with team scores of 36 and 37, respectively.

The Braves’ top performers and athletes that will be moving on to the Class 1, Sectional 1 Meet at New Haven High School on Saturday, May 13 were Namarius Warren and Gavyn Woods.

Warren was second in the 100 and 400 with times of 11.22 and 52.92, respectively. He also finished third in the 200 with a time of 23.70 and fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-7.75.

Bravettes moving on to the sectional meet are Camarie Perdue, Brooklyn Sauceda, Alysa Adams, Maddy Carlisle, and Reagan Evans.

Adams won the high jump with a leap of 4-9.75, Perdue was second in the 200 with a time of 28.93 and Sauceda placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 30-1.5.

Adams, Evans, Carlisle and Perdue make up the team’s 400 and 800 relay teams. The 800 relay team finished third with a time of 2:07.86, and the 200 relay team finished fourth with a time of 57.46.

Oran finished 11th in the boys’ division with a score of 19, and 16th in the girls’ division with four points.

The team’s only athlete to qualify for the sectional meet was Ryan Burke, who finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:18.04.
