Facing Notre Dame for the second time in 10 days, the Charleston Blue Jays again proved to be too quick for the Bulldogs, cruising to a 66-40 SEMO Conference victory Tuesday night at Notre Dame Regional High School.

The Bulldogs (2-9) hung tough early on, using several backdoor passes to get open shots in taking an 8-2 lead in the first four minutes.

"We played hard and got good looks early," said Notre Dame coach Darrin Scott. "We're not deep enough to keep up with them."

Charleston (10-1) countered with an 8-2 run of its own, tying the game 10-10 with 2:38 left in the first quarter. Notre Dame trailed 16-12 after one quarter and it proved to be the closest it would get.

"Our intensity was good to start, but Charleston's quickness makes it tough," Scott said. "They've got great athletes that can wear you down."

Charleston outscored the Bulldogs 20-4 in the second period, including a 9-0 run capped off by a Danny Farmer Jr. layup in the closing seconds for a 36-16 halftime lead.

In the second half, Charleston continued to build on its 20-point halftime lead, using a 13-1 run to push the lead to 49-17, the Blue Jays' biggest lead of the night.
