Charleston, ranked No. 2 in Class 2, was led by point guard Marcus Biles with 19 points. Trentez Lane had 18, and Ashton Farmer added 13. Kewain Gant was held to four points.

Major Burger scored 10 in his final appearance for Kelly (12-15). Seniors Lance Scheffer scored nine and Chris Glastetter had two in their finales.

Charleston advances to the state sectional round against the winner of today's District 1 championship game between Twin Rivers and Doniphan.

KELLY 46, CHARLESTON 44

Cara Scherer scored on two free throws in the closing seconds as Kelly squeaked by Charleston 46-44, winning its first district title since 1994.

"Our girls came out tonight and gave a supreme effort," Kelly coach assistant Tim Scrifes said.

Dana Essner led top-seeded Kelly (22-5) with 12, and Missy Whitney scored 15 for second-seeded Charleston.
