Chaffee's Benton shuts out Kelly

The Chaffee softball team scored a run in the first and made it stand up in a 3-0 shutout of visiting Kelly on Wednesday.

The Red Devils improved to 8-5 with the win.

Kelly's lone error, a pick-off play to third base, brought home the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the first.

Kegan Orr and Rachel Hendrix added RBI singles in the sixth to pad the lead.

Sarah Benton allowed just four singles for the win. Hendrix finished with two of Chaffee's five hits.

Despite four errors, Chaffee coach Debbie Lewis said her team played well in the field.

"The play they did make were very difficult plays," she said.

Chaffee will travel to Central for a 4 p.m. game today.

Delta won a slugfest on the road.

Kaci Menz had four hits and pitched five innings for the win. Kaci Menz, Jodi Menz, Shea Smith and Amanda Seabaugh had two RBIs apiece. Amberly Stout added three hits, and Jodi Menz and Amanda Drew had two hits apiece.
