Chaffee saw a halftime lead turn into a 26-point loss at home Saturday afternoon against Hayti.

The Indians struck on a 30-yard return on a punt block in the first quarter, but ultimately fell 34-8.

The blocked return by sophomore Logan Chapman was followed by a two-point conversion pass from Peyton Montgomery to his brother Charlie for an 8-0 lead.

Hayti used a long pass in the closing seconds of the second quarter to get a first-and-goal at the Chaffee 2. The Indians scored with two seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to 8-6.

"We played a great first half," Chaffee coach Charlie Vickery said.

Hayti moved ahead 12-8 in the third quarter, but Chaffee looked to regain its lead but had an apparent touchdown called back for offensive interference call late in the period.

Hayti pulled away with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

"They wore us down a little bit," Vickery said.

Chaffee fell to 1-2 with the loss, while Hayti improved to 1-2.
