The Chaffee softball team rode the pitching of Madeline Kiefer and late offense to its first win of the season.

Kiefer fired a four-hitter, with four strikeouts and no walks, as the Red Devils defeated host Scott City 6-0 Friday. Both squads are 1-2.

Losing hurler Emily Essner kept Chaffee off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth inning, when Veronica Bennett's three-run double put the Red Devils ahead for good.

Chaffee added three more runs in the seventh.

Olivia Coomer led Chaffee with three hits and Taylor Kirchdoerfer added two. Kim Klipfel had two hits for Scott City.
