The Chaffee American Legion baseball team staged a late rally Friday to win its opening game in the nine-team Capaha Classic Tournament being played in Cape Girardeau.

Chaffee erased a five-run seventh-inning deficit with a seven-run rally to beat Ballwin 9-7 in its pool opener.

Jason Glastetter's two-run homer to right-center field capped a wild seventh as Ballwin failed to record an out in the inning. Chaffee (5-2) had six of its 11 hits of the game in the inning and also used a walk.

Glastetter finished with two hits, as did Lance Amick and Brad Kolwyck. Amick's hits included a bases-loaded double in the seventh that chased home three of his four RBIs.

Josh Eftink went the distance for Chaffee. He allowed nine hits, struck out six and walked three.

Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons, the host squad, was not as fortunate. Cape (4-7) fell behind 11-5 in the early going and suffered a 16-12 loss to Washington.

Joe Hamilton was the losing pitcher. he allowed seven hits and eight runs in three innings.

Mike Sullivan had four hits for Cape while Tommy Wencewicz added three.

In another game Friday, Washington edged Manchester 4-3. The contest pitting Festus at Perryville was rained out. And De Soto forfeited its game to Rogersville after a dispute with the umpires.
