Chaffee's Junior American Legion baseball team got its season started Friday with an overpowering 13-0 decision over Jackson at Notre Dame High School.
Josh Eftink, who earlier in the day was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of Notre Dame's 22-4 baseball team in just his freshman year, capped the day with an outstanding game.
Eftink ripped four hits -- three doubles and a home run -- to drive in seven runs. He also pitched three scoreless innings, striking out eight of the nine batters he faced.
Brian Obermann (1-0) pitched the first two frames of the five inning contest, striking out four for the win.
Tommy Stidham got two hits and Lance Amick three in Chaffee's 12-hit attack
Chaffee led 11-0 in the second inning of the scheduled doubleheader when rain washed out the nightcap. Eftink hit a grand slam in the first inning before the rains came.
