Chaffee girls preview: Experience may help Red Devils reverse record

Chaffee girls coach Chance White said his young team was competitive in a lot of games last year, but the Red Devils finished under .500 at 8-16.

Chaffee has something this year that can pay off in close games -- experience.

All five starters return for the Red Devils with Whitney Schlosser, Mindy Hendrix and Rachel Hendrix on the front line and Kegan Orr and Torie Keys in the backcourt.

"Everybody got a lot of playing time last year," said White, in his second season. "We should be pretty deep."

Schlosser is the only sophomore on the roster, which features five juniors and two seniors -- Orr and Mindy Hendrix.

"We're going to be better on the offensive side, and we need to be better down the stretch to win ballgames," White said. "Last year, we competed well but we didn't play well down the stretch sometimes when we had the chance. Hopefully, the experience pays off."

The Red Devils also have some experience from a district championship softball team this past fall.

"Winning carries over," White said, "whether it's from the classroom or basketball or softball."
