CHAFFEE -- A smaller, but quicker Chaffee girls basketball team defeated Delta for the third time this season with a 57-53 victory in girls high school basketball action Thursday night.

"The Delta kids played us hard," said Chaffee coach Tammy Brock, who saw her team improve to 7-9. "We're smaller, but if we move the ball down the court quickly we can score on the fastbreak."

Jennifer Vandeven led Chaffee in scoring with 24 points. Morgan Kiefer tossed in 17 points.

Delta's Rebecca Below sank a game-high 33 points, while Sara Cook added 10.

Dexter 53, Scott City 34

DEXTER -- Mikala Scott scored a game-high 23 points to help Dexter to victory.

"Mikala Scott was an all-state player as a junior last year," said Scott City coach Randall White. "She can really take the ball to the basket, but I think another factor in our loss was our inability to penetrate and attack their basket."

Dexter outscored the Lady Rams 12-1 in the opening quarter and built a 24-11 advantage going into halftime.

Rachel Spinks led Scott City (4-9) with 20 points.

WRESTLING

Marion (Ill.). 55, Cape Central 24

The Tiger wrestling squad fell to 1-8 in dual meets this season with a loss to Marion, winning just four of 14 matches.

"We lost some matches I wasn't counting on losing," said Cape Central coach Josh Crowell. "The kids we got wins from really impressed me, since they won by a fall or pin. We just came out a little flat tonight."
