JACKSON, Mo. -- Brent Thomason hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to help propel Chaffee to an 8-4 SEMO Conference victory over Jackson Tuesday at Jackson City Park.
Chaffee (2-2), which scored three runs in the top of the first, led from start to finish but never had a comfortable lead until Thomason's two-out homer gave the Red Devils an 8-3 lead.
Jackson scored once in the seventh, but fell to 0-2 on the season.
Michael Birk hit a solo home run for Jackson in the fifth inning, which narrowed Chaffee's lead to 5-3.
Zac Horman pocketed the win while Dusty Roberts suffered the loss.
Bell City 8, Leopold 1
BELL CITY, Mo. -- Jason Rampley and Darrel Bailey blasted home runs as Bell City picked up its first win.
Bailey staked winning pitcher Ben Duncan to a 1-0 lead with a home run in the bottom of the second. A.J. Seiler countered with a solo home run in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1 at the time, but Rampley uncorked a three-run blast in the bottom of the inning.
Duncan struck out 13 batters in six innings while walking one. Kenyon Wright, Ben Duncan and Bailey each finished with two hits for Bell City (1-1). Seiler also had two hits for Leopold.
Woodland 7, Bloomfield 1
BLOOMFIELD,Mo.-- Woodland (2-0) won by six runs in a game that saw 16 runners left on base.
The Cardinals had numerous chances to blow the game open, but stranded 10 runners and lost a couple at the plate.
Travis Benfield went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Kyle Long was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Luke Johnson, the winning pitcher, and Long combined on a three-hitter.
Softball
CHAFFEE 20, DEXTER 3
DEXTER, Mo. -- Abby Walter limited Dexter to two hits and knocked in four runs with a pair of triples as Chaffee won in five innings.
Lindsey Everett went 3-for-3, Ashley Graham and Crystal Morgan both went 3-for-5 and Mallory Kiefer, Walter and Callie Meyr each had two hits. Chaffee (2-0) had 21 hits overall.
Walter had a two-run triple in the top of the first when Chaffee scored six times. The Red Devils scored at least three runs in every inning but the third against Dexter (1-2).
Leopold 16, Bell City 4
BELL CITY, Mo. -- Leopold combined 13 walks with 13 hits to post a five-inning win over Bell Ctiy in the season opener for both teams.
Melinda Trankle recorded the win for Leopold. Kyla Horrell, Holly Jansen and Wendy Vandeven all went 2-for-3 for the Wildcats. Horrell, Jansen and Lori Vandermierden each had a triple.
Leopold scored five runs in the first without the aid of a hit.
Bloomfield 4, Scott City 3
SCOTT CITY, Mo.-- Shana Wadlington and Amy Young each recorded eight strikeouts in relief for the Rams, but a Bloomfield three-run first inning proved too much for Scott City.
With seven hits, Scott City racked up five more hits than Bloomfield. Sidney Baer led the way for Scott City (0-2) by going 3-for-4.

NOTRE DAME 3, POPLAR BLUFF 2
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- After having its first six games of the season canceled due to inclement weather, Notre Dame finally played, and won, its season opener.
Sierra Ellis netted the game-winner off a pass from Emily Worley with 15 minutes left in regulation.
Notre Dame led 2-0 at halftime, but saw Poplar Bluff tie the game with a pair of goals just 13 minutes into the second half.
Sara Berkbigler scored Notre Dame's first goal, depositing a pass from Worley eight minutes into the game. Kristen Boos later scored off a pass from Amanda Dirnberger.
Notre Dame's JV won 2-0 on goals by Rita Jo Dirnberger and Allison Essner.
Jackson 10, Marion 0
MARION, Ill.-- Molly Hartman scored a hat trick and K.T. Biri had two goals and three assists as Jackson opened its season.
Dana Wright added two goals while Ashley Bartels, Courtney Urhahn and Erin Hartman each had one. Whitney Werner recorded the shutout in goal.
Jackson's JV won 3-0 as Katie Crieshop scored twice and Jessie Bolen scored once. Missy Lane notched the shutout in goal.
Girls swimming
PARKWAY CENTRAL 119, NOTRE DAME 57
ST. LOUIS -- Lindsay Kuper won the 200 IM to account for Notre Dame's lone victory in a dual loss to Parkway Central.
Notre Dame fell to 2-6.
JV baseball
CENTRAL 7, NOTRE DAME 2
Jake Welch fired a one-hitter as Central improved to 3-0.
Welch struck out eight, walked two and allowed two unearned runs.
Lucas Presson had two hits for Central.
In a ninth-grade game, Central (1-0) defeated Notre Dame 8-4. Tyrone Reece picked up the win while Zach Hudson had a triple and three RBIs.-- From staff reports
